Born in The Netherlands, Gerlinda van den Berg started her musical career for piano at the age of 12. She was taught by Herman Riphagen, who instructed her to the level suitable for starting a conservatorium education. She continued her studies at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Marjes Benoist and the Fontys Conservatory Tilburg with Joop Albracht, where she graduated in 2005 for her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education with a specialisation in chamber music. In 2010 she also graduated for her Bachelor’s Degree Music Teaching at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague.
Apart from playing the piano she took up playing the panflute as well. Aged 13 she had lessons with Gerard Rijken van Olst and continued her education with Noortje van Middelkoop. Because the panflute is a folk instrument from Romania, she explored this musical genre as well. She was taught by the Romanian virtuose Nicolae Pîrvu. At the moment Gerlinda is mainly focusing on classical playing techniques for panflute and is regularly coached by Matthijs Koene, panflute teacher at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
By playing two different instruments Gerlinda has become a versatile musician. She plays in several duos, cooperates with various musicians and regularly gives concerts in the Netherlands and Germany. She also performed in France, Portugal, England, Canada and the United States. In 2016 she made her debut in India at the 1st anniversary concert at Chai 3:16 in Bangalore. Gerlinda has also published several CDs and participated in masterclasses such as the ‘Internationale Sommercampus’ in Rostock and the ‘International Masterclass for Lieder Duos’ at the Conservatory of Amsterdam with Rudolf Jansen and Andreas Schmidt.
